Krasnodar Stadium Promo

Last November, the guys from the Sila Sveta company approached me with a project to shoot an architectural video for the Krasnodar stadium. The idea of the video was to showcase the stadium itself and the beautiful park in the surrounding area, from its architectural point of view. Not football and fans, not matches and games, but the great architecture of the park and stadium.

Of course, I immediately agreed, but for some reasons reasons the project only started in 2023. A month prior to the start of the project, details of the project began to emerge. It turned out that the screen on which this video will be played, has a very peculiar shape. The closest thing it could be compared to is the boxing belt that is awarded to the champions. Thin at the both ends and teardrop-shaped in the middle, with a super unique resolution of 9790x753px.

At first I did several tests and it turned out that even if we stretch 8K video to the entire width of the screen, we would only see 5-7% of the image, and if we place it to the middle, then there are end up with huge empty areas to the left and right. So that was not an option. The guys from the Sila Sveta came up with an interesting idea to reproduce or replicate textures, objects, and pieces of video to fill the frame. Again we did several tests and it looked very promising, so that’s what we decided to do.

One problem has been solved, but another has arisen. Without physicality being on site and without seeing the park and stadium, it was very difficult to understand what angles and what camera movements could be used well with such an effect. Therefore, it was decided to shoot as much as possible in order to have a choice in post-production.

In mid-May I went to Krasnodar and in total I spent five days constantly filming. Filming was done from the ground as well as from the air.

Then, upon returning editing amd frame selection, was conducted and each shot was tested for use of the reproduction effect.

I visited Krasnodar for the first time and I will say that this is perhaps the best park in Russia that I have seen. During these five days I explored perhaps all the most remote corners of this park :-) its interesting architecture and numerous art objects.

Well, the video itself is now shown on all 4 big screens of the stadium, before the matches.
